Wine – It’s Not A Spectator Sport

I don’t understand Wine Spectator Magazine. Don’t get me wrong – I love the concept. A magazine about wine and all things devoted to wine that an oenophile like me would go crazy over. The wine part I get. But the name, Wine Spectator, not so much.

A spectator, according to the dictionary, is someone who looks on or watches. An onlooker. An observer. Who wants to observe wine? Not me. I would rather drink it, taste it, experience it.

It’s like Jackie Robinson said, “Life is not a spectator sport. If you’re going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you’re wasting your life.” I say, let’s apply the same thought to drinking wine! Let’s not talk about it – let’s drink it! Let’s enjoy it! And I have just the bottle of Tempranillo to start with….
