Wedding Trends for Fall

Black tie, an English garden, Gatsby-chic, farm-to-table and neon.  What do all of these things have in common?  They are all fall 2013 wedding trends!  And, move over cupcakes and dessert tables, because the statement cake is back!

Wedding trends are ever changing, from year to year and from season to season and this autumn is no exception.  What’s on trend are some really fun and surprising elements that continue to prove the fact that there are no such things as “wedding rules.”  Here’s what you may see in the next few months…

The Dress

Totally on trend: short dress with sleeves.  Photo credit

Short is in!  Get ready to show off those lovely legs, ladies, because the short wedding dress is oh-so-in.  The best part about this?  The shoe is the star!  Now you can really justify snatching up those sparkly and fabulous heels because all eyes will be on them…after admiring you, of course.  Also coming back in a big way are sleeves on wedding dresses.  Sleeveless is making way for cap sleeves, three-quarter and full length sleeves.  You’ll also spy illusion necklines and dresses that bare beautiful backs.

The Food

Farm-to-table, local and seasonal ingredients have never been bigger than right now.  Brides and grooms are scoping out caterers who don’t go far to get their fruits, vegetables, cheeses and even meats.  Strawberries in the fall?  So passé.  Look for figs and apples in their place.  Equally as big this season are family-style meals where everyone shares from large platters, as well as small plates (as in smaller courses of five, six, seven, even eight or more dishes!).

The Flowers

The “English Garden” is the new inspiration for wedding flowers this fall.  Brides are opting for hydrangeas, roses, peonies and ranunculus in a big way.  These flowers create a luxurious feel yet still feel natural, romantic and not overdone.   Garlands and (surprise!) cascades are making a comeback, as well.

The Invitations

Think neon has no place at a wedding?  Wrong.  We were slightly shocked to see that neon is pushing its way into weddings.  No, not full on “Barbie and the Rockers” neon, but very subtle touches of, say neon pink or blue on a mostly-neutral invitation.  The result is playfully elegant.  Patterns such as chevrons and Moroccan motifs are still very popular, and three-dimensional invites are increasingly being seen.

The Cake

The cake is back.  We love dessert tables and dainty, portion-control cupcakes, but there is something to say about a show-stopping wedding cake, full of detail, flowers and multiple flavors!  Can’t decide between hazelnut cake with mocha buttercream and vanilla bean cake with passion fruit filling?  Don’t!  Just pick both…along with chocolate ganache-filled pistachio cake, if that’s what you’re craving.  Trust us, your guests will love the excuse to have multiple pieces of dessert.

The Atmosphere

Think “Gatsby”. Photo credit

Leave the seersucker summer suit at home because it’s all about sophistication this fall.  Black-tie is back in a big way; think crystal stemware and gold silverware along with candlelight.  Don’t be surprised if the signature cocktail is replaced completely by the ultimate wedding beverage: champagne.  Also, it seems Hollywood isn’t the only industry struck by The Great Gatsby because suddenly we’re seeing Gatsby-chic all over!  Lots of art-deco, roaring ‘20’s headpieces and fabulous red lipstick are making their way into ceremonies and receptions.

We don’t know about you, but we are completely excited to start seeing some of these trends at Ponte very soon!  If you have a Temecula winery wedding scheduled here at Ponte this fall, be sure to talk to your Ponte wedding coordinator about implementing some of these trends into your own wedding, if any of them interest you.  Let the new wedding season begin!
