The panels are coming, the panels are coming…

We have finally received our construction permit to install our new solar panels on the winery roofs. We’ll be installing roughly 40 Kw or 184 solar panels, which will take care of 25% of our peak usage on a hot Saturday and much more than that on a regular day.

The panels are made in San Diego and are controlled by micro inverters, also made in the USA. The micro inverter solution allows us to monitor and control the panels individually and increase overall efficiency. We’ll all be able to monitor their performance on line. As soon as they are up and running you’ll be able to see within our website how much power they are providing.

Having “free” electricity doesn’t mean we’ll discontinue our conservation efforts. On the contrary, we are just getting started. Our sustainability guy, Nick Webster, a graduate of UCSB environmental science department, is busy working with all our managers to conserve and recycle in everything we do. Please check our website pontewinery.com/we care/ for more information.
