I might cry while I write this. I already feel a little tightness in my throat. You see, this is my last blog.
“So what?” you may think, “crying over a final bunch of words.”
Well, the reason these words may draw such a reaction from me is because I have been working in some way, shape or form, for Ponte for over 10 years. In 2005, after working at menial jobs post-college, I was hired as an administrative assistant for the winery. I answered calls and performed typical office duties while assisting other departments where I could. Shortly thereafter, I accepted a position in the Wine Club. From there, I moved on to manage the Marketing, Online Store and Shipping Departments. After a location move on my end, I continued working for Ponte until I accepted a full time position elsewhere. However, I continued as a freelance writer, working on blogs and the Wine Club newsletters, and this is still where I am today.
Almost two years ago, my husband and I started our own business and, soon after, I considered giving 100% of my focus and attention to it and our family. But, I was not expecting it to be so difficult to cut ties with Ponte. This company is – in a word – amazing. I have never worked for an organization so committed to excellence. Each department lives and breathes with the dedication of providing an exceptional “day in the country” to everyone who walks through those wooden barn doors. Ponte listens to their Members and guests and is constantly seeking to improve their experience in wine country. Where do you think the Reserve Room, Inn and now Inn expansion and pool came from? They do not remain content, but rather ask daily, “What can we be doing better?”
Every time I found myself gearing up to resign, the desire to want to continue to be a part of this place pulled me back in. I am very, very proud to have been connected to Ponte for as long as I’ve been. I will miss brainstorming for new blog ideas. I have a feeling it’s going to take a while to get out of the habit of carrying a small notebook with me to jot down new blog thoughts on a daily basis. It will likely be torture not to write about my latest wine and food discovery, too.
But, it’s time. I will be around a little, just not in the way I’ve been, so I suppose my ties won’t be totally severed… just hanging on by a thread. Thank goodness I will still be a Wine Club Member and be able to enjoy all of my favorite wines and any new ones that are released as well! Oh, and if someone could let me know when that pool opens up so I can book my room at the Inn, I’d be grateful.
Finally, a heartfelt “thank you” goes out to all of my Ponte supervisors over the years, and to the one constant: Claudio. I will forever and ever be grateful to you for trusting me to be a part of your team for so long. I’ve been shaped, educated and bettered by what I’ve learned at this beautiful piece of California you’ve created, and will always take these things with me. Salute.
