The Big Boys of Ponte

Sometimes life calls for a big bottle of wine.  A really big bottle of wine.  And in those times, isn’t it nice to know that you can find one…in fact, three…at Ponte?  Take the holidays, for example.  (Yes, it’s September and I’m already talking about the holidays but, hey, the stores are already putting out pumpkins, cornucopias and wrapping paper so I’m entitled, right?)  Holidays and wine go together like peas and carrots: you can have one on its own but together they’re so much better.  There’s nothing wrong with buying lots of bottles of wine for your holiday table, but what if you could serve twice the number of thirsty guests with one bottle?  Enter: the magnum.  A magnum is a 1.5 liter bottle of wine – two times the size of a standard bottle of wine.  And when you’re hosting a crowd they are mighty convenient.  Every December Ponte releases a magnum bottle of Holiday Reserve Zinfandel and typically the Zin is the only magnum we have available.  As luck would have it, right now we have three magnums for sale, each with their own uniqueness.

2010 Holiday Reserve Zinfandel

Our 2010 Holiday Reserve Zinfandel is simply bursting with black raspberry and allspice flavors.  It’s a great example of a classic California Zinfandel, with complex flavors and a lingering finish.

2009 Library Reserve Zinfandel Magnum

We also have our 2009 Library Reserve Zinfandel Magnums.  This vintage is jammy with bright fruit flavors and balanced acidity and it has been carefully stored over the years.  Both the 2009 and 2010 Zinfandel magnums are perfect choices to serve with classic holiday dishes such as prime rib, leg of lamb and baked ham.

2012 Beverino Magnum

Our 2012 Beverino Magnum is the latest addition to our list of “big boys.”  The wine itself may just be our best vintage of Beverino ever!  The secret blend of grapes used to make our most popular wine have created a subtly sweet wine that tastes great both at room temperature and lightly chilled.  Our winemaker describes the flavor as close to boysenberry cobbler…who wouldn’t love that?  We think the magnum of Beverino is your very best choice to serve at your Halloween party!

So there you have our list of Magnums.  I’m personally a big fan (no pun intended) of these hefty bottles of wine…even though I’ve never hosted more than four people at my holiday gatherings.  More wine, anyone?  There’s plenty to go around!
