Vertical Tasting: Tasting different vintages (years) of the same type of wine in order to detect their differences and similarities.
Members, we invite you to join us this Sunday, April 27th for our third vertical tasting of the year, this one for Syrah! We have a ball at these events discovering which of the wines are your favorites and, so far, we’ve seen that you have a great time as well, whether you’re interested in the flavor and aroma notes, or just enjoy an afternoon of great wine. We will host this event in the Members-only Reserve Room which will also feature live music and delicious food samples from our favorite vendors. During the event, bottles of Syrah will be 25% off for Members, and 30% off when you purchase 12 or more bottles.
Syrah is an old world varietal, with a long history in the Rhone region of France where it is still the main grape grown today. Certain Syrah’s became reputable and famous in the 18th century and then interest in the varietal declined in the first part of the 20th century. From the 1970’s into the 1990’s, however, Syrah experienced a boom in popularity in the United States and all around the world and production of this red wine is as strong as ever.
Ponte’s current vintage is deep purple with aromas of dried herbs and ripe plums. It is full-bodied with a bold flavor structure which makes Syrah perfect for roast meats, barbeque pork, fig compotes and duck with plum sauce.
As far as the previous vintages we will be featuring on Sunday, well, you’ll just have to come and see what they taste like…
