Red Wine Season

It’s October.  I have made my annual pilgrimage into the attic and unpacked the plastic cemetery gate for the front lawn and giant hanging mummy with the red glowing eyes in preparation for Halloween.  I actually have on a sweater today.  Seasons do change in California (sort of).

While my kids are thumbing through the Halloween catalogues trying to figure out what fantastic costume they will pester me for, I dream of red wine.  Sangiovese…Zinfandel…Super T, I like them all. I don’t generally discriminate on the color of my wine, however, I do tend to drink season-specific colors.  White for warmer weather and red as it cools. Since it’s no longer 90 degrees, it’s red season for me!

I’m sure we all have our Halloween night traditions.  Maybe you make “Spooky Spaghetti” with your children, and then take them out to Trick-or Treat.  Maybe you have a fantastic costume party to attend.  In my neighborhood we throw “driveway parties”.  Whatever food you can find to throw out on the pot-luck table and some red wine (it’s really just about the wine). So whether you have fancy plans on your driveway, like me, or something more spectacular in mind, join me in celebrating the change of seasons, Halloween and the beginning of reds season!

Cheers!
