Not Too Little, Not Too Much

We hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

Before you take that sigh of relief, remember you have one more celebration to execute before 2012 begins: New Year’s Eve. If you’re hosting, we commend you! There can be a lot of pressure in entertaining on one of the most party-happy days of the year. How much food? What kind of food? How much wine do I need? are probably questions swarming around your head. We hope we can help with the last one.

The first thing to mention is that estimating how much wine you’ll need is more art than science, my friend. There are different factors you’ll need to consider such as: will you be having a cocktail party or a sit-down dinner? How long is your event? Do you have a salt-heavy menu? If so, your guests will be thirstier! For the sake of this blog, we’ll assume you are having a mingle-minded cocktail party. A good rule of thumb is to plan on one bottle to serve every two guests, every two hours. We’ve found that this is neither too little nor too much.

Don’t forget to include a mix of red and white wine; two great choices from Ponte are 2010 Pinot Grigio for white wine fans and our 2009 Holiday Reserve Zinfandel for red lovers. Your guests will never forgive you if you forget something sparkling to serve at midnight and we have those, too: 2010 Moscato and 2010 Rose Spumante.

We hope you have a safe and fabulous New Years Eve!

What are your plans? Tell us in the comment field, we’d love to know!
