Today is the first day of autumn! There is nothing better to me than an fall Wedding at Ponte. Everywhere you look you see natural gorgeous scenery as the plump ripe grapes wait harvest and the leaves change on the vines from green to reds, oranges, golds, and yellows. Around every corner you see signs of the season changing from the hot citrus colors of summer to a warm palette of pumpkin, rust and burgundy of fall.
I haven’t seen any Bridesmaids in fuzzy moccasins or hoodies, although we’ve had a gorgeous wedding cake decorated with cascading fall leaves and caramel apples for favors.
I’m an old fashioned girl, I could spend a day at an apple orchard, on a hay ride, in a corn maze, and carving pumpkins and be perfectly happy eating donuts and sipping mulled wine til I’m numb in the finger tips and the moon is showing. I long for evenings at home in front of the fireplace, frost tipped mornings. Between the blistering hot of summer [which the grapes love!] and the dormant chill of winter lies the incredible season of autumn.
I know, I know… we’re living in Southern Cal but you wouldn’t know it by how it feels at the winery this time of year.
