Happy New Year

Thousands of guests, 100,000 cases of wine, countless lunches and dinners, several hundred weddings, many Wine Club events (but just six grape stomps) over the last six years! Yes, that’s right…Who would have thought, six years ago, that our winery would become so well-liked? I remember sitting with our team in 2002 wondering whether we were making a mistake even building a kitchen. The debate was: Are we a winery? A visitor center? A tourist attraction? What do we need to build? What do want to be when we grow up?

With the benefit of more that six years, we are finally answering those questions we asked ourselves not so long ago. First, Ponte Winery is primarily a Wine “Club.” We see ourselves (and are proud to be seen by you) as a cool place to visit and to enjoy good food, wine and companionship with your friends and family (and us) in a beautiful setting. Most of our activites are driven by this view of the winery.

We feel we have a huge advantage because of our focus on communicating with you. We receive a great deal of feedback (overwhelmingly positive) and many helpful suggestions. Almost every change in the way we function or in what we build – from upgrading the restaurant, to building the Reserve Room, to the type of Wine Club events we hold – is a result of our Members’ suggetions.

Looking forward to 2010, I’m proud to announce that starting today, January 4th, we will take down our Tent Pavilion and replace it with a permanent, traditional building, while preserving the casual, country atmosphere that the tent provided. The new design showcases spectacular windows on the three sides that face the winery and the gardens, and will be built as sustainably as possible, using the latest in green construction techniques. We hope (weather permitting) to be done by end of April and will, of course, celebrate with a grand opening party. Please pardon our dust….

Ponte Winery is looking forward to celebrating another great year spent with you, and are looking forward to the completion of our next project in 2010. We wish you a Happy New Year and, as always, thank you for your support.
