It’s that time of year again when summer is just around the corner!
The days are longer and the air is warmer. It reminds me of growing up in Michigan when my siblings and I, as kids, would beg our parents to take us to Duggan’s Irish Pub on Woodward Ave in Royal Oak. Their burgers, called Big Chiefs, cannot be beat for the “Special Sauce” they put on them. To this day my whole family tries to replicate the sauce and, so far, my step mom has come the closest. Every time I visit home, my first request heading up to my parent’s cottage on the lake is to stop and grab a Big Chief.
The hamburgers are made with classic ingredients:
- Ground beef patties, cooked to your liking (1-2 patties, depending on how hungry you are)
- Shredded lettuce
- Pickles
- Cheese (1-2 slices)
- A bun, lightly grilled
- Special Sauce
The sauce is made up of mayonnaise, mustard, and curry spice. I have to measure these ingredients by taste; I usually use a lot of curry!
I haven’t been able to replicate the Big Chief special sauce, but everyone seems to like the combination of the sauce I have come up with. This recipe is super easy; if you love curry I know you will love this!
This meal is wonderful paired with Ponte Isabel which also happens to be one of my favorite white wines and is perfect for grilling outdoors with friends or family!
