Getting to Know Your Servers

Working for Ponte for 8 plus years now, I’ve met some amazing people who’ve come in to taste wine. We get visitors from all over the world. In the short time it takes to pour a 6 flight wine tasting, I can learn so much about each of them!

But recently, I sought out more information about the people behind the counter, so I asked to interview some of my staff members to know more about them. What their passions are, favorite wines, favorite vacation spots and anything else they were willing to spill. What amazing lives they have led! Let me share my newfound knowledge with you and I encourage you to come in and visit these amazing folks who have graced our Tasting Room.

First up, Fred.

Fred has been with Ponte since 2003, coming from a background of sales and marketing in New Jersey. In transferring to the West Coast, he became the president of an environmental services and construction company. His favorite part of the job was the company wide dedication to customer service, a dedication he has well carried over to Ponte.

I’m very jealous of Fred for being a seasoned traveler, leaning towards the French-speaking areas of the world. Fred parle un peu de français, and I’m always impressed when he turns it on for our French guests! But don’t take him as “just a lover, not a fighter;” during one trip to France with his wife Helga, they were attacked by teenage gypsies. With no response from fellow metro travelers, Fred and his wife fought and threw all 5 of them off the train!

Like many who transplant to California, Chardonnay was a quick favorite of his. After years in the California wine country, he’s become a lover of dry reds, especially Ponte’s 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Malbec. His knowledge on all things wine and food makes him my go-to man on all wine inquiries and restaurant recommendations.

Come meet Fred in the Tasting Room and pick his brain about food, travel and all things wine!
