Cozy up with Mulled Wine

After all the hot weather, even though it is great for the grapes, I am beyond ready for jackets, scarves and finally an end to the summer heat. Bring on the cooler weather I say. Welcome fall and the Harvest! Soon it will be time for family to gather and enjoy some together time. Here at Ponte, I have found everyone to be just like family. Whether you are relaxing at home or spending time in a group setting there’s always time for wine! Here is a recipe that I love for Mulled wine that will last you through the holidays.

Ingredients

  • One bottle (750 ml) of Sangiovese
  • One large sliced orange (keep peel to add zest to taste into cooking pot)
  • 1/4 cup Zinfandel Port
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 2/3 cup honey or sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • Garnish with cinnamon sticks or freshly ground nutmeg, if desired

Directions

To make the perfect cup of mulled wine, combine all ingredients in either a large pot or a slow cooker. Gently warm the ingredients on low to medium heat (avoid boiling), for 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to make sure that the honey or sugar has completely dissolved. When the wine is steaming and the ingredients have been well blended it is ready to serve. Ladle the mulled wine into mugs (leave seasonings behind) and enjoy!

Serves 4 – 6
