Counting Down to the AFC Half Marathon

Spring has sprung, and with summer on the horizon, you suddenly wish you could reverse those extra calories consumed on Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. If this sounds like you, please join me and all of Team Ponte in running San Diego’s AFC Half Marathon on August 19th!  Attend our kick-off meeting in the Barrel Room on Wednesday, April 25th at 5:30pm to learn more. The thought of running 13.1 miles may make you cringe, but below are a few reasons that may compel you to join us:

  1. Raise money for charity. Team Ponte will be raising funds for Rancho Damacitas, a local home for abused and neglected children. It’s an incredible home for these children and we know you’ll love helping out as much as we do.
  2. Be part of a great team. You won’t be running 13.1 miles by yourself (that would be torture!). You’ll be running, and even training if you wish, with Ponte associates, Wine Club Members and friends.
  3. Lose weight. It’s simple math: Running burns approximately 100 calories per mile. You’ll be running multiple miles during training. A glass of wine is approximately 100 calories per 5 oz. glass.  Run 5 miles Saturday morning, drink 2 glasses of Beverino Saturday night and you’ll still be on track. Cheers to that!
  4. The Couch to Half Marathon Training Plan. Half marathons aren’t just for seasoned pros. With training plans like this, anyone can work their way up to long distance running. This plan is designed to aide you in conquering those 13.1 miles. Print it out, post it to your fridge and cross off each workout you complete. Easy!

We hope you’ll join us and experience this amazing and beneficial opportunity!  Don’t forget, the kickoff meeting is Wednesday, April 25th at 5:30.  See you there!

–Have you walked or run for charity?  Which ones and how was your experience?
