Weird, Wacky Wine Accessories

Some chef somewhere once said, “The only tools a chef needs are clean hands and a sharp knife.”  He or she was without a doubt one of those kitchen gadget-haters.  True, there are a lot of gadgets out there that are totally useless outside of a single task and end up taking up valuable space in a kitchen drawer, but some of those gadgets are pretty cool.  Take the cherry pitter, for instance.  I decided to make cherry pies one summer.  I bought a cherry pitter knowing I could very well get cherry pits out with a knife…but the sales lady was so convincing.  Let me tell you, with that pitter, I pitted a pound of cherries in a flash.  Then I found out I could pit olives with it, too!  Score!  The same could be said for wine accessories.  When it comes to wine, there are just a couple accessories one actually needs to enjoy it: a corkscrew and a wine glass.  However, how handy is a foil cutter?  And how much do we love those nifty chillers that chill your Chardonnay in minutes? Gadgets can be fun and helpful.  And then there are those that are just plain weird.  But, I suppose, if you’re looking for a gift for a wine lover that has everything, one of these might just be perfecto.

Chain Wine Bottle Holder – Nope, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, this chain sculpture sits on your counter and securely holds a bottle of wine (in midair). Image source

Etienne Meneau Decanter – Veins.  That’s what I think of when I see this.  And veins with blood!  An impressive display of glass and balance, and I’m sure your vino will breathe just beautifully but, no.  Just, no.  Image source

Screwdriver Corkscrew – So, this is an actual, working screwdriver, however, the Bosch IXO now includes an attachment to uncork bottles of wine!  Ha ha! Well, I guess no one could say this is a one-job gadget.  Image source

Vino2Go® – I can only describe this as a “wine sippy cup.”  Great for picnics and tailgating, no?  Truth be told, I am absolutely planning on ordering one of these awesome cups for my summer camping trip.  Don’t judge.  Image source

Wine Clip – The Wine Clip is a magnet that you attach to the neck of a wine bottle.  Supposedly, the clip “re-aligns the molecules” in the wine, softening the tannins and making it smoother.  Eh, sounds fishy to me, but, again…might be good for that vinophile who has it all!  Image source
